Seriously?

How is it 3:15am? What happened to the time? Why am I not tired? Duuuuude.

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas. This holiday season was definitely filled with a lot of mixed feelings, highs and lows, but I think was really good for the most part. Some nursing home visits, some laughs, some difficult communications, some phone calls... lots of smiles, and babies, and presents, and good food. Our holiday meals get weirder and weirder - today was orange rolls for breakfast, grilled cheese for lunch, potstickers and stir fry for dinner. Making potstickers is easy when you have a food processor. Weeeeee.

I got better this year at asking for things I need and will use rather than things that accumulate that I don't need.
I keep meaning to buy the homeless woman in Chicago some gloves. I need to not forget about that - this one woman has been out near where I work for the last year and a half. I think gloves is a good way to go.

And I need to start planning my new years eve party. Yeah, that.

I don't even feel tired. This can not possibly be good.

The Weather is always entertaining

"Can I go home at 5?" Z
"The storm isn't going to strike until 8, but you can go home at 5" J
"What? The weather told me 3" S
"Who do you listen to? I listen to (some meteorologist on the news)"J
"I listen to weather.com" S
"I Listen to S" Z
"S is not a licensed meteorologist"J

Lunch Convos

From the vegan researcher: small arms harpoons (ie, if you put a fishing hook in a gun, would you need two licenses?)
"You can own all the fishing poles you want but you better not put a hook in the water unless you have a license"
Laws that didn't pass: limiting the purchase of guns to one gun per month (mostly said to make the European woman at the table balk in disbelief)
What is corruption?

Things overheard in the office

(something about the governor of Illinois being arrested)
"Oooh... listen John, Mail Fraud!"
"Now its personal" (between the guys on the post office project).

"You give me Obama's Senate Seat... I'll give you... a bagel!"

(or things seen in the office):
Eating cold soup directly out of the can (Trader Joe's Organic)

Also, WHAT:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/12/09/drescher-senat/
"Drescher, 51, is best known for her starring role in the 1990s television comedy "The Nanny" and an adenoidal voice that could strip the rust off an engine block — a talent that might come in handy during a Senate filibuster."

Listening to Lynn O'Brien, so the day can't be all bad.

From this morning's twitter (because I like it) : wearing galoshes it occurs to me i can go through puddles without care, and that i havent splashed enough puddles in my lifetime

My life is not real...

Seriously. What?

11pm last night, the phone rings. My aunt Sue "So... you know how your cousin Jesse is on this reality show? And probably getting married on Tuesday? Well we are allowed to invite more people than we originally anticipated, so if you can get out to San Diego..."

So I looked into it, and it would cost me 25,000 United miles (which I have) and $100 to get out there tonight and return on Wednesday. Unfortunately, my project ends Wednesday... which means there's a lot to do between now and then, and even if I could put the hours in, I can't really be out of communication that long. Hmmmph.

I also got a letter from my stepsister. Very interesting. Beautiful artwork.

Every morning is a battle against myself...

... to get out from under the covers. My bed is just so much more comfortable in the winter. Or the rest of the world is just too cold.

Great long weekend, all in all. Thanksgiving out in the suburbs, Mad Men watching, potlucks, Quantum of Solace, Chicago Diner, Golden Nugget, and general shenanigans (SO MUCH FOOD).

I have galoshes! It is very exciting. I'm also still in disbelief that I live in a big city. It just kind of hit me this morning. I take the L in to work and work downtown with all the tall buildings. WTF.

I need to get off my butt. Work had a coding/volunteering party last night, that was fun (check out powered by action). I also need a place to take 5-20 of my coworkers for a habitat-type trip (manual labor) in March. If you know of any exceptional orgs, please let me know (somewhere warm in the US).
